Easy access for patients
Local healthcare involves different care providers – public and private – and official authorities such as the municipality, the regional social security office and others. Together they develop healthcare processes based on patient- and needs perspective. Local healthcare is the safe and easily accessible base for care.

Local healthcare caters to healthcare needs that are:

• common among the general population
• recurring often for the individual
• reasonably able to be carried out locally in regard to public financing.

How do we develop local healthcare?

Examples of development in local healthcare are team care for the elderly which is created through cooperation between healthcare centers, geriatric or advanced home healthcare and the municipality’s home services, or when a team for children with symptoms of apathy is created through cooperation between BUP, adult psychiatry, pediatrics and advanced home healthcare.

It may also involve cooperation in creating new organisational structures such as family centers and local outpatient emergency clinics.
